Start cycling in Paris
To get started easily, you can choose to rent a Vélib' Métropole. There are more than 1 400 Vélib' Métropole stations in service in Paris where you can borrow a two-wheeled vehicle day and night to get around. And for the less athletic, no excuses, 30% are electrically assisted bikes!
If you've never ridden a bike before, the bike schools are there to teach you the right gestures and get you started. Do not hesitate to contact them.
Our partner Welgo offers you to rent an electric cargo bike. They take care of everything! From maintenance to insurance, they're there to help you 7 days a week.
Riding a two-wheeler in the capital
Once on the bike seat, you must use the bike paths and respect the rules. The map of Paris by bike can be found on Paris.fr or at the Maison du vélo. For your safety, put on a reflective clothing or headband that will make you more visible to other users and wear a helmet if possible. Make sure you have the mandatory equipment: a bell, two brakes, front and rear lights and reflectors on the wheels and pedals.
To calculate your itinerary, we suggest Géovelo, a calculator that will allow you to select the most suitable itinerary for your bike, from the safest to the fastest.
Parking your bike safely
When you arrive at your destination, you have to find a place to park your bike.
Several solutions are available to you:
- if it's a Vélib' Métropole, you bring it back to the closest station,
- If it is your own bike, whether it is new or used, you must protect it from bad weather and theft.
You may find a parking space on the street. Paris has more than 60,000 bicycle spaces.
Saemes offers bicycle passes in 29 of its parking. More than 1,100 spaces and a Vélostation, located next to the Gare de Lyon in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, are available to you, protected from bad weather and supervised 24 hours a day. For a subscription, depending on the parking lot, count between 59 € and 82 € / year. A very good solution if you need to park frequently in the same place.
