Inaugurated in December 1996, the National Library of France aims to be contemporary. In the upper garden, the Library of Study offers 1,600 reading places in five departments (sciences and techniques; literature and art; political, legal and economic sciences; philosophy, history, human and social sciences; audiovisual). The collections consist of 300,000 volumes. On the garden level, a research library is reserved for researchers. The library also has two exhibition rooms and two auditoriums.
